Steve Kmiec was born on January 28, 1965 to Marjan and Jeanne Kmiec. Steve Kmiec is the youngest of three brothers. He attended grade school at St. Matthias Grade School on the Southwest side of Milwaukee. He graduate high school at Marquette University High School in 1983. He graduated from University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee on the Dean's List in 1988, with a degree in Economics. Thereafter, he attended Marquette University Law School, concentrating in personal injury and insurance law studies. He graduated from Marquette University Law School in 1991.

Steve Kmiec has worked for the Kmiec Law Offices since 1984, initially as office manager. Upon receiving his law degree, he became an associate at the Kmiec Law Office, practicing in the area of personal injury law. He has successfully handled and tried cases involving automobile accidents, slip and fall injuries, products liability, worker's compensation, bad faith insurance claims and medical malpractice.

Steve Kmiec has been admitted to practice law in the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Wisconsin. He is licensed in the State Courts for the State of Wisconsin, and he has been admitted to practice in the United States Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit in Chicago. Steve Kmiec has been Specially Appointed to practice law in the State of Florida and Illinois, Civil and Appellate Division. Steve Kmiec has been appointed a member of the State Bar Association, the Wisconsin Academy of Trial Lawyers, the American Trial Lawyers Association and the American Bar Association. He has served as the chair of the Milwaukee Bar Association, Lawyer Referral and Information Service Division from 2001 - 2005. He has served and continues to serve in several non-profit and community development organizations including Board Member of Layton Boulevard West Neighbors, Silver City Organization Committee and Mukwonago international Lions Club.

Marjan R. Kmiec (11/10/1929 – 5/3/2023) was born in Poland to Joseph and Maryanna Kmiec. He traveled by boat to the US from Poland when he was 6 months old. He graduated from Pulaski High School in 1948 whereat he placed second in the State Diving Championship. Thereafter, he joined the armed forces and was stationed in Japan. 

In 1952, he entered college at Santa Ana Junior College in California. In 1954, he moved back to Milwaukee whereat he graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1956 with a degree in Political Science. Marty received his law degree from Marquette University Law School in 1959.


He worked as a claims adjuster for Badger State Mutual Casualty Company until he graduated from law school, and then became a  founding partner of Karius, Kmiec & Kaye Law Firm in 1959. In 1979, he opened his own law firm, Kmiec Law Offices, and practiced into his mid-eighties.

Marty was a voracious advocate for his clients and won several multi-million dollar verdicts. Marty handled and tried cases in personal injury, automobile accident, spinal cord injuries and bad faith claims for 60 years. He tried his last case when he was in his eighties, winning his last jury trial.


Marty had been admitted to practice in the State of Wisconsin, the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Wisconsin, the Veterans Administration, the District of Columbia, the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the 3rd and 7th Circuits, the United States District Court for the Virgin Islands, the Menomonee Indian Tribal Courts, the State of Florida and Pennsylvania.


Marty was the President of the Milwaukee Bar Association for three years and a lecturer in seminars for the Milwaukee and State Bar Associations. He was an organizer and President of Polish Festivals, Inc., and played a pivotal role in acquiring the land on which the Polish Center of Wisconsin in Franklin, WI is located. He was a member of the Polish Army Veterans, the Milwaukee Society, South Side Business Association, and Judge Advocate for the Polish Legion of American Veterans. He was also an excellent sheepshead player.
